Down House – Home of Charles Darwin

Down House was the family home of Charles Darwin, one of the most influential scientists in history. It was here that Darwin wrote his groundbreaking work On the Origin of Species and developed many of the ideas that changed our understanding of the natural world.

Visitors can explore the beautifully preserved house, Darwin’s study where he worked, and the peaceful gardens and woodland paths he walked daily. The famous Sandwalk, Darwin’s “thinking path,” still winds through the garden today.
